Groundation on Dial Africa with PJ

‘Groundation is who we are. To be grounded. To be one.’ Harrison Stafford of Groundation.

In last Wednesday’s Dial Africa show, PJ caught up with Harrison Stafford of Groundation, the roots reggae band whose latest album is a lush arrangement that blends jazz and dub to create a fresh and rich sound. The nine piece has been around in various incarnations since 1998, with Stafford, Ryan Newman and Marcus Urani at the helm. Fourteen years and seven albums later, Stafford says this album, with it’s funk inspired horn lines and heavy Latin and African based polyrhythms combining with their jazz musicianship and reggae spirit mean that ‘Building an Ark’ is an album not to be missed.

‘This is our greatest album. This is Groundations best work. Over all the years and all the records we have learned and we have grown in the craft of songwriting and arranging and composing, and I think this album really highlights this.’ Harrison Stafford on Building an Ark.
