Guten Tag and Hello from Germany!

Hello everybody,

My name is Anna, I am 18 years old and I am the latest intern of Eastside Radio!

I come from a small town near Berlin, Germany’s capital. Just having passed my A-levels, I want to enjoy life to the fullest and gather as much experience as I can- and one chance to grab this experience is at Eastside Radio!

This is in Amsterdam two months ago!

As I am still unsure what to study or what to do for a living in the future, I wanted to do an internship to get an orientation and learn something new.

When I was asked as a child, if I had any visions for a future job, I had several ideas. From fashion designer to book author, waitress, expert at astronomy or radio presenter. Of course this has changed over the course of time, but with my internship I can see if one vision from my childhood- the media or radio business- could be a real option for the future.

When I was a child I practically did nothing else but reading. There was no book thick enough for me and I read almost everything that I could grab- if it was classical literature, fantasy or thriller. I basically lived of books and took them everywhere I would go. To school, on holiday, on a trip to grocery shopping. We would go out to have dinner? Sure, as long as I could take a book with me.

Along with books, another great part of my childhood was music and so I grew up with tunes from Queen or Mika for instance. When I was in 2nd grade I decided to start playing the violin and although I put it down twice, I always picked it up and started playing again as I would miss playing too much.

Today I still play it occasionally and I listen to a great variety music. I like a lot of songwriters like Ed Sheeran or Passenger (Original Australian, yeah!) but I also listen to bands like Billy Talent, or Queen (they never really left me) and also to artists like James Blunt, Adele, mixes from Avicii or to film soundtracks.

I like to explore new tracks and find good new music and while I am having my first day at the radio station, I notice that I’m constantly surrounded by music- and it’s good music I haven’t heard yet. How exciting!

Going to Australia has been a dream of mine since we dealt with it at school and I had the opportunity to write my term paper about Australia’s Indigenous People. So while I am staying here, I hope to get the chance to learn about their culture and past. Another aim I have for my stay, is to see a lot of the landscapes and countryside and especially I want to see the Great Barrier Reef! Last year I had to write another term paper and I picked the most famous reef in the world as my topic. I had dealt a lot with Australia and it made me curious to see and explore more. So when I thought about what to do after school and wanted to go abroad, I instantly knew I had to pay a visit to Australia!

And I am very happy that I can stay in Sydney, as I already read about it and one of my favourite TV series was set in Sydney, so I could already catch a glimpse of the city.

So I am really excited about what I’ll be able to see and learn about during my stay- about Australia’s culture, people and also about myself!

See you soon,

Anna x
