Gypsy Hot Club – Playlist May 21, 2012
This set picks up Gypsy music from the Balkans, Hungary & Slovenia into France & the Netherlands then across to the UK & USA spanning many years of recordings. I have put in a feature of accordian music that gives this playlist a definate French cafe flavour.
The picture on the left is Gus Viseur who had many of his own bands and recordings and was an integral part of the Quintet of the Hot Club of France. Wikipedia also credits Gus as one of the founders of the accordion-jazz style known as ‘manouche’.
This week I have come accros some music that is new to me, the klezmer music of Giora Feidman, my next opportunity to fill in for Yaron I will put some of Giora’s music to air, in the mean time see if you can find some of his tracks – I am sure you will enjoy his classicly flavoured klezmer.
Selected & Presented by Peter McCallum,
filling in for Yaron Hallis,
