HATS OFF ON ARTS THURSDAY!
From turbans to toques, helmets to protective hairnets, headdress has been important for protection and practicality, cultural identity, style and fashion. The traditional Easter Bonnet, the country cockies’ hats at the Easter Show and fashions for the racing carnival, focus attention on hats in this season.
On Arts Thursday, 9 April 2014, Maisy Stapleton spoke to Milliner Cath Kelly from Embellish Atelier and Historian and Research Fellow Dr Prudence Black from the University of Sydney about the design, making and some recent history of the hat in Australia.
