Hysteria and The Russian Nude – Arts Monday

ARKADIY KOZLOVSKIY NUDE 3THE RUSSIAN NUDE is a study of the female form by the late Russian photographer, Arkadiy Kozlovskiy (1964-2014).
The images in an exhibition presented as a Salon Show at Black Eye Gallery, were selected from a vast archive and is the first time the work of renowned photographer Arkadiy Kozlovskiy has been displayed in a solo show.

This collection of art nudes from 2010-2014, includes a selection of black & white and colour photographs taken in studio and on location.

This exhibition came about when the photographer’s two children Slava and Maria, both of whom live in Australia, inherited their father’s extensive archive after he passed away in 2014. In his Will, Arkadiy asked his children to preserve and exhibit his work – the work he was most proud of, and to support and promote cancer research.

image007HYSTERIA, by playwright Terry Johnson, takes its inspiration from history, when in 1938 the surrealist painter, Salvador Dali paid a visit to Sigmund Freud who had settled in London. In this play of debate and farce, the therapist is forced to face his own secrets when confronted about abandoning his theory of Hysteria. Dali was heavily influenced by the psychological theories of Freud, and as a Surrealist, he sought to release his subconscious imagination through art. Hysteria imagines the fallout when two of the twentieth century’s most brilliant and original minds collide.

Actor, Wendy Strehlow who plays Freud’s physician, Abraham Yahuda, is my guest today. Darlinghurst Theatre Company produces and presents the Sydney Premiere of Hysteria.
