I’m at the start of an amazing week

Hi Eastside FM Readers!

I’m Anna and I am here for my first ever week of work experience. I’m in Year 10 from Sydney Girls High School in and was extremely excited to be doing my week of work experience at such a great radio station.

When it came to choosing a place for work experience I had a few options that suited my interests. I was torn between either going to a make-up studio, a hockey association or a TV/radio station; as you can see my interests are fairly distributed. I was accepted into all three of these options but as you can see I eagerly chose to come here. My music interests mostly consist of pop, punk and alternative rock; my favorite bands being Green Day, The Killers, Franz Ferdinand and the Kaiser Chiefs. (In that order!) Though this radio station is primarily jazz and I didn’t know much about the genre, I was keen to be in an environment where I could learn much more about it.

Admittedly, before my search for placements, I had previously never heard of Eastside FM. But I am now more than happy to announce that I am very glad to have found this place as I came to loving it around 10 minutes upon my arrival. Though I do have to say that I was lost for about 20 minutes after walking past the hidden entrance several times. When I first walked in, I was greeted by the awesome station manager Tony and was then introduced to Pauline, an extremely friendly intern from Germany whom would be helping me get familiar with reception and everything else. I was overwhelmed by the amazing collection of CD’s and posters, as well as being impressed with the complicated panels and broadcasting equipment.

So far today my responsibilities included greeting guests, answering phones and making tea or coffee. Though this doesn’t SOUND interesting, I actually got to meet some very intriguing people such as some presenters of the station as well as a writer and a circus performer/actress.

All in all, my first few hours here have already been as great as I hoped they would be and I can’t wait to continue my week here at Eastside Radio.
