Stick painted by Yuendumu women artists, early 1980s, in collection of Australian Museum

On Arts Thursday, 3 July 2014, Scott Mitchell, Head of Culture, Conservation and Collecting at the Australian Museum spoke to Maisy Stapleton of the first steps taken by Northern Territory Indigenous women artists, from the Yuendumu area, to bring their work to the attention of art lovers in the early 1980s.

In these brightly painted artefacts we can find evidence of the contemporary indigenous art practices that have captured the art market over the last 30 plus years.

Tune into Arts Thursday every fortnight with Maisy Stapleton for  in-depth and insightful interviews and inspiring music
