Inspiring stories!
Two inspiring stories tomorrow on Arts Thursday, with Maisy Stapleton.
Scott Mitchell, Head of Culture, Conservation and Collecting at the Australian Museum speaks of the first steps taken by Northern Territory Indigenous women artists, from the Yuendumu area, to bring their work to the attention of art lovers in the early 1980s. In these brightly painted artefacts we can find evidence of the contemporary indigenous art practices that have captured the art market over the last 30 plus years.
Then Margaret Lazar, Deborah Burdett and Amanda Solomon tell us about the ‘Arterie’ program, designed to engage cancer patients in art programs as they undertake treatment at the Chris O’Brien Lifehouse. This program, including art and craft projects and a lecture series exploring the benefits of art health relationships, are designed to help to ease the pain, fatigue and stress of treatments, which impact both the patient and their families.
Tune into Arts Thursday 10:30 ‘til noon Thursday 3 July for an in-depth, informative and inspirational program
