Jammin Friday, jazz and soul with a short trip to Papua New Guinea with artist Lesley Wengembo.

Bonjour ou Bonsoir,

Hello Beautiful souls of Sydney and the world! This Friday 18th of February 2022 from 7-9am during Jammin’ Friday tune in to discover our special guest who will join us at 8:30am. Born in Papua New Guinea, talented portrait artist Lesley Wengembo, who is the recipient of the 2021 Derivan Award of Excellence from the National Art School of Sydney, will talk to us about his art and his homeland.

Lesley Wengembo, just completed his three years bachelor of fine art at the National Art School. During the course, he majored in painting with intensive drawing class, both life and conceptual drawing. With a great focus on Art History, he believes in the importance of understanding and analysing the history of both ancient to Modern Art artist throughout the centuries.

Lesley Wengembo’s trajectory from simple market seller in Port Moresby to competing in Australia’s most famous art prize is wildly inspiring. Lesley is a young 20 ish man who is currently based in Sydney. He had competing twice at the Archibald Prize and was a finalist in the prestigious Brisbane Portrait Prize in 2020.

You still have up to the 20th of February 2022 to discover Lesley’s arts and other graduates at the National Art School “Grad Show 2021“. NAS is proud to present the work of their 2021 Bachelor of Fine Art (BFA) graduate students. With 148 graduates exhibiting more than 1800 works across the campus, this is the largest cohort ever to graduate from NAS. A great opportunity to see the next wave of Australia’s best emerging talent.

If it’s your first time tuning in to Jammin’ Friday, prepare yourself to travel into a musical journey where Jazz meets the suave rhythms of Latin America and Mother Africa. It will be mixed with some Soul, blues and some Classic R&B all this, with a French & Creole Touch! I’ll be playing a plethora of beautiful songs. Hopefully, you’ll enjoy this morning trip around the world.
