JAMMIN’ SUNDAY 29 NOVEMBER
US blues guitarist, Muddy Waters (McKinley Morganfield 1913-1983), was a hugely influential figure in blues music. His influence extended to Jazz and Rock n’ Roll as well as Country and Rhythm and Blues. His song “Rolling Stone” was said to be the inspiration for the naming of the band The Rolling Stones.
The Blues engendered an entirely new approach to harmony in Western music, producing a high level of complexity in jazz. The influence of the blues in jazz is all-pervasive.
Blues is a musical form originating in the Deep South of the USA at the end of the 19th century. It arose from African-American communities from a combination of spirituals, work songs, shouts, chants and field hollers.
In the Jammin’ show this Sunday between 7am and 10am, I will play some of the music of Muddy Waters and the jazz which was influenced by it, both vocal and instrumental.
