Jazz @ The Pav
Jazz @ The Pav is a month-long celebration of Jazz music at the Bondi Pavilion theatre. Featuring a star studded line-up of Sydney’s finest musicians, you are invited to sit back, relax and have a drink at one of Sydney’s finest locations while enjoying some excellent local music.
Acknowledged as one of Australia’s most distinguished jazz and soul artists, Sanzone is a singer with her own defined style and tone, deeply soulful with the ability to sail effortlessly through the most intricate jazz melodies. Sanzone is joined by the award-winning pianist/composer Matt McMahon and his trio, a longstanding band that has developed an astounding synergy. Be prepared for fireworks as these jazz forces meet once again, breathing new life into anything and everything they perform.
The catholics are one of Australia’s most distinctive contemporary groups. Throughout their beautifully crafted and instantly accessible pieces runs a strong, seductive dance strain found in the band’s various African, Caribbean, Latin and Eastern influences. This Mo Award-winning, ARIA-nominated seven-piece ensemble is one of Australia’s most popular jazz acts and has performed across the nation to great response.
Formed as a direct response to the underrepresentation of women in the jazz music community, the band brings together some of Australia’s strongest and most innovative young female jazz musicians and improvisers. With past performances at Brisbane Festival, Manly Jazz Festival and opening the Darling Harbour Jazz and Blues Festival, Sirens have built a reputation as a progressive and commanding big band that you won’t want to miss.
The Greasy Chicken Orchestra brings their brand of swinging 20s/30s jazz to the Pav, featuring some of Sydney’s finest musicians as they celebrate the music of New Orleans and beyond. With a focus on early Duke Ellington, Louis Armstrong and Jelly Roll Morton, tunes include such early jazz classics as South Rampart Street Parade, Muskrat Ramble, and Froggie Moore Rag.
