Jazzgroove Mothership Orchestra to headline Summer Festival Opening Night on Thursday 17th January

Legendary Jazz outfit the Jazzgroove Mothership Orchestra are set to tear it up as headliners of the much anticipated Jazzgroove Summer Festival 2013 Opening Night celebrations this Thursday, 17th January.

Hosted by the Tom Mann Theatre in Surry Hills, the orchestra is set to sizzle: their members have dominated Australia’s top prizes over the last decade including the National Jazz Awards, the Freedman Fellowship, the Australian Jazz Artist of the Year (Bell Awards) and the James Morrison Scholarship plus numerous international appearances and releases.

Australia’s premier jazz orchestra, touring with Chris Potter in June, the most recent CD ‘Kristin Berardi meets the JMO’, won best vocal album at The Australian Jazz Bell Awards.

The music of the Mothership is exciting, dynamic and highly original; with most of its young members (average age 28) being part of one of the Jazzgroove Association.

The orchestra has released two critically acclaimed CDs: “The Mothership plays the music of Mike Nock” (2006) and “Dream Wheel” (2007); as individuals, its members have released over 30 CDs as bandleaders.

Featuring the incredible saxophonist Roger Manins as guest soloist, and supported by the all-star bassist Jonathan Zwartz Band and West Australian pianist Tom O’Halloran playing a solo set, this will be one of the most exciting nights of this year.
