Dubbed the true fairy of rock ‘n’ roll, he out-queened Queen and was hailed the new David Bowie, but despite massive billboards in Time Square, major label backing and a Cecil B. DeMillesque marketing plan, world domination didn’t eventuate. It seems the world wasn’t ready for glam-rock’s first unambiguously-gay androgyne in 1973, when Pennsylvanian escapee Bruce Campbell burst on to stage in the first of many outrageous get-ups. Fresh from the cast of Hair and wielding a new Thorian monicker, “lost god” JOBRIATH experienced a meteoric rise to obscurity lasting less that two years, yet he continues to inspire – Morrissey being one long-time outspoken fan. Now director Kieran Turner spotlights Jobriath’s unique life story in Jobriath A.D. – a documentary showcasing his music, his “reptilian and oleaginous” manager, fantastic footage and interviews/cameos with Soft Cell‘s Marc Almond and Jake Shears of Scissor Sisters amongst many others. Narrated by Henry Rollins, this is the tragi-comedy of a glam-god who fell to earth… and then kept falling. Did he really end up living in a pyramid on the roof of the infamous Chelsea Hotel before he sadly died in 1983? Is that Richard Gere in the choir? Find out at our exclusive screening.
