SIMA Presents: The Music of John Hollenbeck – ‘Joys & Desires’ with Theo Bleckman (USA) and The Jazzgroove Mothership Orchestra + The Claudia Quintet (USA)

On Tuesday 11 May, 8.30pm at The Basement

The drummer and composer John Hollenbeck inhabits a world of gleaming modernity. There’s room for robust improvising in his music but it always feels transitional, like a means to an end. – The New York Times

Composer and percussionist John Hollenbeck’s journey has been one of the most remarkable in contemporary music. Building on a wealth of experience in jazz and world styles as well as a deep interest in contemporary composition and spiritual practice, he has forged a lyrical new musical language, as accessible and expressive as it is advanced. A protégé of Bob Brookmeyer, he is has received a vast number of international awards and fellowships for his bold compositions for small and large ensembles.
