John Murry returns to Australia for one Sydney performance

John Murry returns to Australia for two intimate performances

on the eve of Warner Music Australia releasing his new EP ‘Califorlornia’

John Murry fell for Australia when in the country earlier this year for performances the Sydney Festival and beyond. He will return to record his next album in the secluded surrounds of the Dandenong Ranges in Victoria with Australian producer Mark Stanley. While here, Murry will be taking the opportunity to perform just two intimate-venue shows, in Melbourne and Sydney.

Cut from the same cloth as Elliott Smith, Lou Reed, Jeff Tweedy and Darkness On The Edge of Town-era Springsteen, alternative folk artist John Murry faces what he sees in the glass unflinchingly and then turns the mirror on us in ways that allow one to see their own reflection in sharper focus

The combination of emotionally unsparing, high-minded thinking, streetwise poetry, and gutbucket execution is visible on Murry’s full-length album, The Graceless Age. The album is the biographical story of surviving a near fatal heroin addiction. The album went on to be one of the most critically acclaimed albums of 2013.

Murry’s new EP, Califorlornia, released via Warner Music Australia continues his evolution, showing off more modern rock curves and building on the buzzing, very alive production direction he embarked on with the late Tim Mooney (American Music Club) on The Graceless Age. The 10 track EP includes the single ‘Glass Slipper’, and a cover of Warren Zevon’s ‘Genius’. There are 6 bonus tracks included, which will be demos and outtakes from The Graceless Age.

“….dark songs that are never fully grim but rather stark and direct with a layer of graciousness’”

– Bernard Zuel Sydney Morning Herald

“….there’s a real beauty to his stuttering melodies”

– The Guardian

“you can hear Murry rip open every spiritual vein with his vocal performance.”

– Kathy McCabe Daily Telegraph

“….delivered as if the lines are ripped from Murry’s very soul”
