Jukka Perko Avara Trio

17_52

The Avara Trio, led by pre-eminent saxophonist Jukka Perko are touring Australia this June. The Finnish trio bring their repertoire of Nordic hymns and soulful jazz to our shores to link in with their appearance at the Melbourne and Brisbane International Jazz Festivals.

Spotted and recruited into Dizzy Gillespie’s Big Band in the late 80s as a teenager, the prodigious Jukka Perko has been a towering figure in Scandinavian and Northern European Jazz for more than 25 years and remains one of the shining lights in European Jazz. The Avara trio is completed by two of Finland’s finest Jazz guitarists, Teemu Viinkainen and Jaro Saari helping to create a melancholic and soulful sound which simultaneously haunts and soothes

The tour will begin in Sydney before taking in a short tour of the east of the country before ‘finnishing’ at the Embassy of Finland in Canberra. Don’t miss this opportunity to catch this brilliant trio and their wonderful fusion of sizzling contemporary jazz with arctic Finnish hymns.
