Kings Cross Festival 2012: Art, music, food and entertainment!
This month, from Thursday 22nd to Sunday 25th November, Kings Cross will be host to the inaugural Kings Cross Festival. Expect the unexpected with a brilliant display of music, community events, art, shopping and cultural events. Events include free concerts, pop-up stores, waterside picnics, window art displays, train station performances and plenty of opportunities to see Kings Cross.
There are plenty of great family attractions, from puppet shows, children’s performers, walking tours to live entertainment and even a dog parade at the Seaside Family Picnic.
The infamous Ignatius Jones has lined up an amazing selection of artists in world music, big band and cabaret including performers such as Green Mohair Suits, My Juvenile, Hiatus Kaiyote, The Phonies, Margret RoadKnight, Marcus Holden, Hunter & The Lion, Lulu Liu, Miriam Lieberman, Greg Poppleton & The Bakelite Broadcasters, The Strides, Nigh Owl, Lo Five, Anti Heros, Renée Geyer, a special gospel morning featuring two gospel choirs and many, many more.
Don’t miss Cumbiamuffin (pictured above), a Colombian-Australian band that produces a great upbeat atmosphere filled with energy through Cumbian (coastal Colombian) music mixed with reggae, ragga and roots of the Caribbean.
ARIA World Music winner Joseph Tawadros (pictured right) and his brother James Tawadros will also perform with their eclectic collection of Egyptian and Arabic instruments, such asthe Oud (Arabic lute), Req (Egyptian tambourine) and Bendir (frame drum) to create amazing Egyptian music that is not only great to listen to, but is also quite a spectacle to watch. Anyone who saw their show at Eastside’s November Live @ 505 event knows this will be something special.
The Dan Barnett Band and Emma Pask (pictured left) will also be performing together; trombonist and singer Barnett has been compared to Frank Sinatra and Harry Connick Jr., while Emma Pask was once described by jazz legend James Morrison as “The greatest gift to Australian Jazz Vocals in the last decade.” The combination of the two is bound to result in an amazing performance.
