Kristin Berardi Meets The Jazzgroove Mothership Orchestra

Eastside Radio’s Album of the Week is the self titled Kristin Berardi Meets The Jazzgroove Mothership Orchestra.

Assorted with seventeen of the most distinguished improvisers from this fair land and nominated three times for the Australian Jazz Ensemble of the Year, ‘The Mothership’ is Australia’s leading Jazz Orchestra. And when they combine forces with a multi award winning vocalist, in this case in the shape of Kristin Berardi, then you would expect special things to happen.

The expectations are answered with vigour. The debut release from this jazz super group collective is as exciting as it is beautiful.

Berardi’s vocals are as beguiling and serene as ever and they are complimented sublimely by the Mothership’s flowing grooves and melodies. A worry on first look at this album would be that the size of the Mothership could possibly drown out the voice of Berardi. It is testament to the Orchestra that the result is quite the opposite. None of the sensitivity of the lyrics and mood is overpowered. Rather a natural harmonic bond seems to effuse between the Mothership and Berardi, the ensemble with subtle precision allowing the her to twine smoothly through their instrumentation. It feels as if they have performed together forever.

Kristin Berardi Meets The Jazzgroove Mothership Orchestra is a release on the Jazz Head label. For more information on this album go to their website at www.jazzhead.com
