Las dos Fridas: interview with Meiwah Williams

meiwah williamsBroadcast on Arts Friday with Kurt Phelan, September 16

Here is an interview with Eastsider Katerina Skoumbas chatting to Meiwah Williams…

… who is the director and creator of Las Dos Fridas, a one woman show about the life of famous Mexican female painter Frida Kahlo. It is a beautiful journey of emotions, music, dance and acrobatics. Meiwah grew up on monkey bars and is an accomplished aerial acrobat and dancer. She’s been a prominent figure in Strangefruit and Legs on the Wall and has now developed this one woman physical theatre piece Las Dos Frida, with Sydney composer Ben Walsh and female vocalist Maja Petrovna on the music, this production is both a new and captivating interpretation of a well-loved female icon. There’s a real balance of symbolism, physical control, laughter, love, sex, death and Frida’s passion…
