Love Is in the Air… ‘Amour’ @ Forever French this Wednesday
Tune in to Forever French Wednesday 20 February from 8 to 9pm
and win a double pass for the masterpiece ‘Amour’.
Directed by Michael Haneke (Austria), ‘Amour’ is a sensitive portrait of old age.
Though the title of the film sounds cheerful and light, ‘Amour’ is a universal, beautiful and touching drama.
Georges (legendary French actor Jean-Louis Trintignant) and Anne (Emmanuelle Riva) are cultivated, retired music teachers in their 80s. Their love for the arts remains as they sit down to take in a concert from one of Anne’s students. They return home and to look around their Parisian apartment you find the evidence of a pair of lives well-lived.
One day, Anne suffers an attack and a subsequent surgery is unsuccessful leaving the right side of her body paralysed. At first she’s confined to a wheelchair, still able to talk, but unable to get around like she used to. Georges must help her in the bathroom, into bed and must cut her meat before dinner. This is only the beginning for the couple’s bond of love to be severely tested.
Haneke won his second Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival with this acclaimed drama in 2011.
Emmanuelle Riva won recently the Best Actress award at the BAFTAs 2013.
The film will be played also at the Sydney Film Festival this year…
…But don’t wait until the Sydney Film Festival. This Wednesday, we will offer you the chance to watch the film in Sydney cinemas playing from February 21 on.
A bientot!
