MAGNET – MAGNET

Eastside Radio’s Album of the Week is the self-titled album by MAGNET.

Lead by guitarist and composer Stephen Magnusson, MAGNET are a new collaboration based in Melbourne of friends who have known each other for nearly 20 years. The quartet is further made up from Sergio Beresovsky on drums, Carl Panuzzo on vocals and Eugene Ball on trumpet.

Their self-titled debut album sees the four together create a unique blend of jazz, world and folk music full of expression and passion. Spanning from energetic wild spaces to tripping ambient folkscapes, MAGNET’s sound is uninhibited in its beauty as impressions range from formulaic sounds to uncut ravaged emotion.

Notable moments include stunning virtuoso guitar showmanship from Magnusson, particularly on the opening track ‘Vos’ which conjures almost magical images of a distant Latin America. The vocals from Panuzzo are also particularly beguiling and entrancing with his style at times primal in its raw and untarnished beauty.

You can catch MAGNET very soon here in Sydney as they set off on their album tour in November, they’re set to perform at Live in The Village in the Blue Mountains on the 23rd November and 505 in Surrey Hills on the 24th November.

MAGNET is an independent release by MAGNET assisted by Arts Victoria. For more information go to mag.net.au
