Major Chord – Transition

Eastside Radios album of the week is Transition by Major Chord.

MAJORCHORD

Subtle elements of folk and beautiful melodies make up this terrific album from Victorian musician Dan Flynn, and his bandmates Meabh Friel (vocals, violin, mandolin), Aaron Pepper (drums, keys) and Phil Collings (Bass). It was a chance meeting with these musicians that led Dan to create this album, as well as receiving a grant from Arts Victoria to finally put these songs into the public forum. A social worker by day, Dan is one-half of the noisy folk duo Children of the Wave, as well as a budding solo artist who built his very own music studio in his garage to continue to exercise his creative endeavours.

Transition, though beautiful and, at times, euphoric; stems from a darker subject matter. The untimely death of Dan’s father following the release of his third album Psychic Civil War in 2011 broke Dan’s psychological dam, and a plethora of new instrumental and lyrical material came poring out.

Receiving accolades from ABC Radio National, ABC Dig Music, ABC Sydney 702 and Melbourne’s PBSfm, Dan and his comrades have been lauded for creating a beautiful album of music that is soft and delicate, yet heart-wrenchingly powerful.

The combination of his whispering vocals, strokes of his acoustic guitar and flourishes of the violin, mandolin and more, make this album a riveting listen and the perfect fit for our Album of the Week here at Eastside Radio FM. Tune in throughout the week for a chance to win a copy of this gorgeous album!
