Lloyd Swanton’s major new music project, Ambon, gets its first Sydney airings at the Sound Lounge on the 27th and 29th August. On Thursday Drive Mick Paddon talks with Lloyd about what it meant to him personally, to base his suite on the personal experiences of his Uncle, who died in a POW camp in the Second World War but whose diaries have been a significant national historical record of life and survival in the camps. They discuss how Lloyd composed the music, the influences, the sounds he was after, and getting musicians to play saxophones with brass instrument mouthpieces. Hear the interview on Drive at 4.40 pm on Thursday 27th, or listen to the podcast which will be up on this website from Friday
