Me & Missus Jones
Introducing Adelaide’s acclaimed singer, Charmaine Jones with the Brendan Fitzgerald Quartet
The Basement welcomes back Brendan with his ensemble following last year’s performance of Take Five – The Dave Brubeck Story and their recent five-star reviewed Adelaide Fringe show, SWING – The Beat That Shook The World. Together with Charmaine, they will present a collection of jazz standards by composers that have stood the test of time. Gershwin, Cole Porter, The Duke, Rodgers & Hart, Lerner & Lowe and Jobim breath again, whilst the vocalists who iconised their music can be heard in this melodious show.
“Charmaine Jones slow rendition of All of Me was worth the ticket price alone” (Adelaide Now, February 2016, review of SWING – The Beat That Shook The World)
Charmaine Jones is one of Adelaide’s most exciting jazz singers with a wide repertoire covering contemporary jazz, swing, gospel and Brazilian music, paying homage to the performers she considers to be the leading ladies of jazz: Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, Sarah Vaughan, Carmen McRae and Astrud Gilberto. Brendan Fitzgerald has written, produced and performed his two recent hit tribute shows covering the life story and music of Dave Brubeck and a sweeping account of the swing jazz phenomenon of the 30’s and 40’s, touring to Sydney, Melbourne, regional Victoria and NSW.
“The maestro himself, Brendan Fitzgerald, at the grand piano, covers all of the great names of the past, from the sparse but incredibly vital playing of Duke Ellington, to the much bigger sounds of Count Basie’s pianistic fireworks, and all of the others in between. Listen carefully to his playing and see what a massive job he has taken on, and in which he succeeds so well.” (Broadway World review of SWING)
The Basement is their venue chosen to premiere this new production, which will transport the audience to another world on a journey in time via well-loved and slightly obscure jazz standards.
