Miss Renee Simone – Roar
Eastside Radio’s Album of the Week is Roar by Renee Simone.
With the mighty power of impeccable vocals and a sweet soulful vibe, Byron Bay bred Miss Renee has some serious talent up her sleeve. She utilises soft and sultry harmonies with the stripped back instrumentation to allow her powerful messages of self-worth and belief to be the focus of her stunning work.
Recorded in Byron Bay and produced by Jake Savona, Miss Renee encompassed a vast array of musical instruments, including ukelele, trombone, double bass and even an addition of beatbox.
It’s a collection of songs that echoes the influences of a young Renee. Drawing on her love of famous songstresses Nina Simone, Billie Holiday, Lauryn Hill and Janet Jackson, her vocal style is simple yet compliments her subject matter perfectly by bringing in a sense of humanity. Her voice adopts a conversational tone that as a listener you feel as though she is talking to you and only you.
The subjects of songs draw from her own experiences as a child therapist, by drawing particular focus on mothers and urging them to be in touch with themselves and their own personal inner needs. Miss Renee wants you to know just how beautiful you are.
Her lyrics are a call arms for all women, acting as both a reminder and encouragement to remain true to yourself and overcome any obstructions that fall into your path.
