Musica Viva Festival 2015

The Musica Viva Festival, with it’s fine traditional of exquisite performances of chamber music, will be marking this years concert at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music from the 9th until the 12th of April.

Known for hosting some of the best national and international talent in classical music, the festival will feature some incredible acts from Mischa Maisky, Karin Schaupp, Aleksander Madžar, Daniel de Borah, Nicolas Altstaedt, Doric String Quartet, Narek Arutyunian, Orava Quartet, Bella Hristova, Umberto Clerici, Timothy Constable, Kees Boersma and Oavel Haas Quartet.

There will be seven concerts in total over the four days, lead by local and international acts. Each concert will follow a different program and a different performer to showcase the versatility of the concert.

As well as incredible performances, the festival will also be holding masterclasses with the master cellist Mischa Maisky. He is the only musician to have studied under Rostropovich and Piatigorsky, who are famous for their performance and teachings of the instrument. Notorious for not ‘teaching’ in his classes, Maisky is one to enjoy the emotion and expression of the piece instead of commenting on the technique of the piece. You can book a place in his masterclass on the Musica Viva Festival website.

As well as this once in a lifetime masterclass, there will also be classes with the performers from the Australia Youth Orchestra. They will participate in classes to learn from the international masters and will show off their incredible skill during the festival at different performances.

A fine instrument and bow exhibition will also be shown at the festival so that we can appreciate how instruments have developed over the years.

The festival website has video presentations of each of the performers. Australian guitarist Karin Schaupp is one such performer who’s representing Australia. Check out her bio video here.

This 2015 festival will not only feature the great masterworks of classical music, but will also feature the world premiere of two new works by some Australian composers.

Lachlan Skipworth and Natalie Williams will both be debuting a piano trio and a string octet respectively that will be played by some of the world’s best musicians.

The concert is the pinnacle of classical talent and is not such an event to miss if you are an aficionado of classical chamber music.
