From one of Australia’s great jazz pianists, the new album Duende brings Briana Cowlishaw’s stunning vocals into the mix of artists already assembled by Mark Isaacs for his ‘Resurgence’ series.

Isaacs’ Resurgence project has attracted two ARIA Award nominations and tours widely in Australia and Asia, playing major festivals such as Tokyo Jazz Festival, Melbourne International Jazz Festival and recording a TV special for South Korean national TV. In this fourth release in the series the stunning line-up of the cream of award-winning Australian instrumental talent is joined by the brilliant young Australian vocalist Briana Cowlishaw, who at the tender age of 24 has already recorded two albums in New York.

“Isaacs’ compositions flood the senses, the pianist playing with a passion that stands out in Australia today” LIMELIGHT Magazine

From the tuneful and immediately accessible You Never Forget Love (lyrics by Mark Isaacs) to the hardhitting New Lives or the bitter-sweet title track Duende, Resurgence’s mix of virtuoso playing, gorgeous vocal and lyrical or grooving compositions by Isaacs reclaims the good name of jazz fusion with its heady brew of soul, gospel, classical, blues, Latin and R&B influences.

“One of the most original sounds you will hear for some time” THE AGE

Mark Isaacs’s other diverse musical activities for 2013 include the première of his first symphony by the Queensland Symphony Orchestra in October and the recent international release of the classical solo piano album of his original compositions Children’s Songs on the New York label Soundbrush Records.

“Isaacs is a master of writing pieces that are both emotionally complex and yet still orderly… This is music composed and performed for the listener, not at them. Wonderfully integrated, thoughtful and intelligent…providing some of the best on the cutting edge of accessible jazz” ALL ABOUT JAZZ (USA)
