NICKY SIANO: LOVE IS THE MESSAGE

Groovescooter and Eastside Radio‘s Cellar-uloid Sessions are back with the Australian Premiere of LOVE IS THE MESSAGE a film about Nicky Siano‘s legendary SoHo club The Gallery. The documentary features never before seen interviews with Siano, Frankie Knuckles, David Mancuso and others, drawing on orignal footage of the infamous underground New York parties of 1976-77.

A pioneer of the scene, Siano‘s unprecedented skill on the turntables was matched only by his flamboyance- he could often be found DJ-ing dressed as the Statue of Liberty or in nothing more than a set of headphones. He opened The Gallery with his brother Joe in 1972 and the venue became instrumental in inspiring the careers of Grace Jones, DC La Rue, Larry Levan and Loleatta Holloway amongst others. As The Gallery‘s reputation grew Siano‘s popularity skyrocketed and he was eventually poached by Studio 54 for its opening in 1977. So if you’re a lover of all things disco or just need some help remembering those years head down to the Underground Bar for this exclusive screening.
