Nigel Milsom Showing at Juniper Hall
The dark and mysterious works of Sydney artist Nigel Milsom will be showing this April and May at Juniper Hall as a part of the Moran Arts Foundation.
The exhibition will be a showing of Milsom’s best work from the beginning of his career up to his current work. It will feature the best of his art, as well as a few selected new pieces.
Milsom won the Moran Art Prize Award in 2013 for his work Uncle Paddy. The piece was a nod to the man who used to sit with his late grandfather in the NSW Leagues Club and drink with him on a Saturday night.
One of the judges who decided on Milsom’s win, Ben Quilty, has described Milsom as a “painter’s painter”.
“The painting was literally the best in show. The work is sophisticated in its simplicity and quiet power and was the only work that both Daniel Thomas (fellow judge) and I could agree on. It was a very easy choice in that sense”.
Milsom’s work can come across as melancholy, but his style, technique and restrained use of colour makes for uniquely vivid and intense imagery. The cut of the lines and the shadows bring the paintings alive, and his eclectic choice of subject matter is never less than fascinating. Nigel Milsom is one of Australia’s leading emerging artists and a talent to look out for in the future.
