Nominate Your Local Hero – Woollahra Council’s 2013 Citizen of the Year Awards

Bruce Bland, 2012 Woollahra Citizen of the Year, and the Mayor of Woollahra, Councillor Susan Wynne.

Hello There Eastsiders,

Do you know someone who is a tireless worker for the community and deserves recognition for their efforts? Why not nominate them for Woollahra Council’s 2013 Citizen of the Year awards.

Nominations are now open for individuals, groups and projects. Awards will be presented in the following categories:

Individual:

  • Citizen of the Year Award

Group, school or individual:

  • Most Innovative Community Project
  • Most Innovative Community Cultural/Arts Initiative
  • Contribution to the Environment
  • Contribution to Community (Local or International)
  • Seniors’ Award
  • Youth Award

Residents are encouraged to nominate those that have helped improve the quality of life for others and are role models for the community.

Mayor of Woollahra, Councillor Andrew Petrie, urged people to take the opportunity to pay tribute to Woollahra’s unsung heroes.

“There are so many people in our community doing wonderful things and this is a chance to celebrate their achievements,” said Councillor Petrie.

“We all know someone who gives much of their time to help others and this is a chance to do something for them.”

“Nominating someone is easy to do, but it can have a big impact on their lives, and we’d like people to help us celebrate our quiet achievers by putting them forward for an award,” said the Mayor.

This year Bruce Bland was named the overall Citizen of the Year for his extensive community and volunteer work in the Woollahra area. Nick Clough was presented with the Youth Award for his involvement with a number of community projects including Best Buddies.

To be eligible for the awards nominees must be residents of the Woollahra municipality and/or have a strong affiliation with an organisation or project in Woollahra.

Nominations are now being accepted, and can be made online at the Council website. They will remain open until 8 February 2013.

The awards will be presented late March 2013.

Looking forward to your nominations.
