ONE NIGHT ONLY: Chasing The Moon in Randwick
Night owls rejoice!
For one night only, Sydney gypsy jazz gang Chasing the Moon will send Randwick into dance frenzy on Friday 24 July, as presented by the Randwick Council Twilight Concert Series, in association with Musica Viva Australia.
Having wowed audiences at numerous jazz festivals, including Newcastle, Dubbo, Wagga Wagga and Illawarra, this award-winning six piece band will be performing their signature style mashes of folk, blues, swing and flirtatious Latin rhythms.
But it doesn’t stop there!
The main attraction to this talented ensemble is their infectious on-stage energy, thought by many as highly reminiscent of the great jazz of days gone by.
Accompanied by fellow highly accomplished musicians Paul Burjan (Saxophones and Flute), John Blenkhorn (Guitar), John Conley (Double Bass), Rodney Ford (Drums), and Garry Steel (Piano Accordian); main vocalist and violinist Kathy Bluff says that the band are very much looking forward to this Eastern Suburbs special.
“The audience can expect an entertaining and joyful performance style that celebrates the romantic sounds of jazz,” says Bluff. “Our six-piece ensemble will envelope those listening in an almost orchestral sound with the strings, wind, piano accordion and drums.”
Some of the highlights of the show will be Django Reinhardt’s song Nuages and Minor Swing.
“This beautiful ballad of lost love, Nuages, is sung in French and English with a smoky and mellifluous vocal style that will sweep people away,” says Bluff.
She continues, “Probably Django’s most famous number is Minor Swing, and Chasing the Moon’s version, which is married with Russian classic Dark Eyes, is always a show-stopper that gets hands clapping and feet stomping in a frenzy of gypsy passion.”
