One of the most gorgeously distinctive voices I’ve heard in a while, Lady Blackbird has proved a serious force with her debut album ‘Black Acid Soul’. Self-describing as a “true lover of music;” since launching Lady Blackbird she has drawn comparisons to Adele, Amy Winehouse and Celeste while also professing inspirations in the form of Billie Holiday, Gladys Knight, Tina Turner and Chaka Khan.

Her debut is an album of re-imagined neo-soul classics from the likes of Nina Simone, The Three Degrees, The Voices Of East Harlem as well as a couple of stunning original pieces. She worked with Grammy-nominated producer Chris Seefried and recorded in the legendary Studio B (aka Prince’s Room) at LA’s Sunset Sound.

She joined Chelsea Deeley (The New Thing – Mondays 9-10:30am) via Zoom to chat all things ‘Black Acid Soul’, the song selection process, her collaborators and her love for Brittany Howard.
