Poster Boy by Claudia Chan Shaw @ Art Atrium

As a part of the Head On Photo Festival, Art Atrium will be hosting a spectacular exhibition by renowned artist Claudia Chan Shaw. Called Poster Boy, it is a in depth interpretation of what Claudia sees when a message left on wall space is taken down and replaced by many different posters that leaves a message behind with each replacement.

Claudia Chan Shaw is an incredible artist whose career has dabbled in the creative industries of art & design, photography, curating, television & radio, arts commentary, collecting and lecturing. She also is the co-designer for the acclaimed fashion label Vivian Chan Shaw, which is owned by her mother. Her lantern installation of Rabbits at Customs House was a delight for Sydney siders during the 2016 Sydney Chinese New Year Festival. Perhaps what Claudia is best known for is her role as co-host of the popular ABC television program ‘Collectors’ which she joined in 2010.

Her latest creation called Poster Boy is a reflection of how Claudia sees the ever changing street scene. The photographs featured in the exhibition are from the streets of Paris, Barcelona, Sydney and Melbourne.

“Every day a poster is pasted to a wall. It has a limited amount of time to attract attention and convey its message before someone else’s message is plastered on top. The second message fights for exposure until it suffers the same fate, when anonymous hands come along and strip the posters away, leaving only a suggestion of what might have been. It is what is left, that accidental abstract abbreviation and the patterns they create, that fascinates Claudia Chan Shaw.” – Head On Photo Festival.
