Revisiting Jane Austen & The Ideal Home Arts Thursday on 24th January 2019
If you are a lover of the works of Jane Austen tune into Arts Thursday with me, Maisy Stapleton.
Carrie Kablean’s debut novel What Kitty Did Next, follows the next phase in the Bennet house hold and furthers the story of Kitty Bennet, fourth sister in Jane Auster’s Pride and Prejudice.
Carrie Kablean surveys the next step in the life of this rather shadowy sister, who definitely comes into her own in this work and we get additional glimpses of heroines Elizabeth and Jane, not to mention the bumptious Lydia and annoying sister Mary.
It’s a delightful and pleasurable book to read, and not only for fans of Jane Austen.
Then revisit the Ideal Home exhibition, which I first covered at the Penrith Regional Gallery a few weeks ago.
This Arts Thursday I visit the Powerhouse Museum (Museum of Applied Arts and Sciences), where the emphasis is on avant-garde mid-century art and design for the home.
This component of the exhibition showcases fine examples of architecture, textiles, ceramics and art, from both institutions, demonstrating design ideas that resonate sixty or seventy years after their introduction into the Australian design lexicon.
Meet exhibition MAAS Head of Curatorial Jacqui Strecker and curator Anne-Marie Van de Ven speaking with Maisy Stapleton at the Powerhouse Museum.
