Robert Glasper Experiment – Black Radio 2
Eastside Radio’s album of the week is Black Radio 2 by the Robert Glasper Experiment.
A hip-hop producer with a penchant for jazz, Robert Glasper’s latest work is a combination soulful tunes, a jazz ambience, electronic flourishes and hip-hop undertones. While an unlikely combination, Glasper has paced rap-like style dances perfectly above the tinkling of the piano and the supple beats.
Propelling this album are the well-chosen feature artists that provide their respective talents to Glasper’s magical sound. Artists such as Norah Jones on ninth track Let it Ride, seventh track Yet To Find featuring the sensational Anthony Hamilton, Jill Scott’s gorgeous soulful vocals on fourth track Call and stunning vocalist Faith Evans on You Own Me are just a few of the fabulous guest spots that manage to gather artists from all corners of the musical world for variety and texture.
As a follow up to its Grammy-award winning predecessor Black Radio, this album is an equally impressive affair. It’s the freedom to move around the different realms of music that Glasper has, on many occasions, said to be the driving force behind this group, completed by drummer Chris Dave, saxophonist Casey Benjamin, and Derrick Hodge on bass. As Glasper has been quoted:
“That’s what makes this band unique… We can go anywhere, literally anywhere, we want to go. We all have musical ADD and we love it”
Optimistic, jazz-infused and soulful in everyway; Black Radio 2 is the perfect fit for our Album of the Week here at Eastside Radio 89.7FM. Tune to to our station throughout the week to here tracks from this sensational album!
