Ruby’s Music Club Brings Autumn Socials

SIMA and 107 Projects welcome you to Ruby’s Outdoor (Indoor) Music Club

Zetland’s home of soul, jazz and blues!

Sydney has just experienced one of its wettest ever summers, but autumn promises a much better run of mild nights – perfect to enjoy the unique indoor/outdoor ambience of Ruby’s in the Joynton Avenue Creative Centre. It’s an early start at 6.00pm every Friday fortnight for the next four weeks, with an outstanding lineup of talented young musicians and some established names.

The Autumn Socials event kicks off with the Hauptmann Trio on the 11th of March, with special guest Arne Hanna. Long-time musical collaborators and guitarists, Arne Hanna and Ben Hauptmann make music together that is like a lush garden viewed via time-lapse photography. The pair are joined by bassist Zoe Hauptmann and drummer James Hauptmann.

The excitement continues with Cope St Parade on the 25th of March – they’ll melt your heart with a tender ballad before launching into rollicking swing, guaranteed to get you on your feet.  Justin Fermino, Aaron Flower, Ben Panucci and Sam Dobson come together with a wondrous blend of vocals, saxophone, guitar and double bass.

On the 8th April, Ruby’s will have a double bill consisting of Abby, Andrew and Also Arty; as well as The Greasy Chicken Trio. You’ll have a hell of a good time when you hear drummer Abby Constable, guitarist Andrew Scott and organist Arthur Washington’s passion for swingin’ organ jazz. Combine that with pianist Peter Dasent, saxophonist Phillip Johnston and James Greening, and you’ve got some high-energy jazz vibes.

Concluding the Autumn Socials is Green Thumbs on the 22nd of April. Despite their name, Green Thumbs is steeped in the blues and groove, with a healthy dose of modern jazz. Join organist Steve Barry, guitarist Roy Isaac, and drummer Hamish Stuart for the big finale of the show.

A bar and snacks are available, and the venue is only ten minutes walk from Green Park Station. And if does happen to sprinkle, Ruby’s is fully under cover. The venue is also wheelchair accessible, and venue access details can be found HERE.  Ruby’s is a COVID Safe Venue, which operates under the COVID Safe Plans of 107 Projects and SIMA, so nobody has to miss out!
