Sandy Evans- When The Sky Cries Rainbows
Eastside Radio’s Album for Christmas is When the Sky Cries Rainbows by Sandy Evans.
For over two decades Sandy Evans has been a key contributor to Australian Jazz. She now offers a remarkable album to add to her repertoire.
The album’s background is nothing short of inspiring. In 1996 her husband was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis, and this is her heartfelt tribute.
Sandy on sax is supported by the regular Sandy Evans trio, including Toby Hall on Drums and Brett Hirst on Bass. This is accompanied by some of her life-long friends in music, making the album a beautiful journey in jazz.
The tracks vary from bursts of Sandy’s tenor and soprano sax, to delicate grooves. The three horns and piano offer a perfect flowing accompaniment.
With moments of spontaneity and improvisation, this is an exceptional album from some of Australia’s finest jazz musicians.
When the Sky Cries Rainbows was commissioned by the Australian Council and recorded by ABC. For more information go to sandyevans.com.au.
