Silent Dinner Party for the Sydney Fringe Festival 2015

We city folk love to sit down to a casual dinner party every once in a while. It’s a time to catch up with friends, chat about what you’ve been up to lately and talk about what’s been going on in the world lately.

And so the Fringe Festival has decided to close this year’s festivities with just that: a lovely dinner party. But there’s a catch…

The party is an event run by Honi Ryan’s international performance art project and it is called a Silent Dinner Party. There are rules that guests must abide by during the duration of the dinner, and they are a little off centre for what a normal dinner party is usually conducted.

The rules are guests must not use words or your voice, must not read or write to each other, must make as little noise as possible, mustn’t interact with technology and they must stay at it for at least two hours.

The event has been a sold out party at a global scale, including dinner parties held in Melbourne and Adelaide. This year they return home to Sydney to quietly bring their biggest banquet yet.

The dinner will be a three course meal prepared by Sydney’s Studio NEON Chefs. These group of chefs are the epitome of creativity and are always striving to challenge themselves in the kitchen and think outside the box.

The menu is expected to be filled with local, seasonal produce that show off lots of colour, texture and flavour.
