Mimi Jones & Camille Thurman

Mimi Jones is a New York bassist, vocalist and composer who founded a music label called “Hot Tone Music” to foster artists in the genres of Jazz, R&B, Pop, and Gospel. She plays bass in a quartet led by herself and Camille Thurman which is a feature band in the upcoming Sydney International Women’s Jazz Festival.

Mimi was born in NYC and raised in the Bronx.

She attended the Performing Arts High School, famous from the TV series “Fame”, and is a Bachelor of Music from The Manhattan School Of Music Conservatory.

Camille Thurman was also born in New York. She is a player of the saxophone and flute, and a vocalist, as well as a composer. Her saxophone sound has been compared to that of Dexter Gordon, amongst others, and her vocal style has been compared to Ella Fitzgerald and Minnie Ripperton.

Camille was runner-up in the 2013 International Sarah Vaughan Vocal Competition and a recipient of a Herb Alpert Young Jazz Composer award. Like Mimi Jones, Camille is an alumnus of The Performing Arts High School.

Camille is joint leader of a jazz quartet with Mimi Jones.

The Camille Thurman/Mimi Jones Quartet will feature at The Sydney International Women’s Jazz Festival between 4th & 15th November, 2015.

The Thurman/Jones Quartet is established on the New York jazz scene in the post-bop era which is heading in a melodic and engaging direction.
