Sirens Big Band – Kali & The Time Of Change

Eastside Radio’s Album Of The Week is Kali & The Time Of Change by Sirens Big Band.

Local all female super collective Sirens Big Band have been brimming with potential for some time now, wowing audiences with their vibrant live shows, most recently with their Eastside live at 505 in December last year.

Winners of the Jann Rutherford Memorial Jazz award, The Sirens are a 17 piece band lead by bassist Jess Dunn. The fact that the group are all female is no marketing ploy. The Sirens are an incredibly talented and eclectic collective that are bringing a fresh style with a positive serving of exuberance and passion to the scene. Sydney needs bands like this!

Kali & The Time Of Change marks the debut from the group, and it sees the girls cohesively blend jazz, Latin, Middle Eastern, Afro and Hip Hop, all in a unique and beguiling fashion. Inspirations for their music are drawn from both local musicians and far away lands.

The LP certainly sees Sirens begin to live up to their fully deserved hype. Energy, emotion, and subtlety are all precisely balanced to craft an album that appeals to the Jazz head with a sense of adventure.

Kali & The Time Of Change is an independent release by The Sirens Big Band. For more information go to sirensbigband.com
