Something Else – 24th November – Gallery 2166 and Angela Stretch

This evening, Justine will chat with Angela Stretch and Andrew from the Gallery 2166 initiative.

Whilst most high schools have halls, sporting facilities and libraries, art galleries are not something that usually forms part of the blue print when schools are being built. Gallery 2166 aims to change that. The project aims to raise enough money through crowdsourcing to be able to repurpose an old building at Cabramatta High School into a free-admission cultural hub, fostering contact and engagement with art with students and the community. Their aim is to provide a model that will spread to other schools.

More details about the project, including how to become a supporter, can be found at their website here: https://www.pozible.com/index.php/archive/index/4134/description/0/0

Angela is the founder of Wordjammin’, an organisation fostering the spread of poetry and spoken word. Angela is currently coordinating a series of readings at the Brett Whiteley Studio in Surry Hills, called ‘Sunday poetry @ 2pm’. These combine a well known poet with an open mic section for the public to share their words.

The next Sunday poetry event is on this Sunday, 27th November, and features the award winning and multi-talented poet, hip-hop artist, b-boy, director and community worker, Morganics.

Time: November 27, 2011 from 2pm to 4pm
Location: Brett Whiteley Studio
Street: 2 Raper St
City/Town: Surry Hills

More details about the event can be found on the Brett Whiteley Studio website here: https://www.brettwhiteley.org/whats_on/sundays_at_2pm
