Sondheim On Sondheim, Woollahra Small Sculpture Prize and Touched

squabbalogicMy first guest: Producer and Director, Jay James-Moody discusses his Australian premiere of Sondheim On Sondheim – a unique theatrical event showcasing the best of Stephen Sondheim – the ‘Father of the Modern Musical’. Squabbalogic’s production of Sondheim On Sondheim is drawn right from the heart of the genius behind the finest musical theatre works of the 20th century. From the world-famous to the obscure, two-dozen carefully selected songs are framed by in-depth video interviews delving into Sondheim’s personal life and artistic process and includes brand new material written by Sondheim.

Michael Combriani – kinetic art work in progress

My next guest: Artist, Micaldo Combriani is a finalist in this year’s Woollahra Small Sculpture Prize.

The innovative finalists’ submissions– each for a freestanding sculpture of up to 80cm in any dimension – were selected from a record number of entries including local, national and international artists.

2014 marks the 14th year of this annual event- award categories are the main Acquisitive award; a Special Commendation award; the Viewers’ Choice award; and the Mayors Award.

Woollahra Small Sculpture Prize Exhibition:

My next guests: Artists, Jo Wood and Kim-Anh Nguyen chat about ‘Touched’ an exhibition which explores the ideas of self and of journey through the artists’ unconventional, delicate and intricate use of ceramics.

Jo Wood’s passionate engagement with process and unconventional use of materials produces vessels of astonishing delicacy.

Kim-Anh’s work is influenced by indigenous cultures and their traditional woven textile and basketry craft. Her work is based on the process of coiling – a technique which has been used from the earliest times.

The exhibition will be opened by photographer, Greg Piper on Thursday 2nd October 6 – 8pm
