Sounds Of Soul chronicles and playlist (04.10.2013): Jamaica got Soul

JamaicaThere has always been a great connection between Afro-American popular music styles like Soul and Funk and its Jamaican equivalents Ska and Rocksteady. This is not only true for collectors who very often dig for both sets of genres but even more so in a music historical sense. There is a real treasure trove of gorgeous Jamaican cover-versions of US Soul songs, sometimes even fairly obscure ones, right from the instrumental Ska interpretations of Motown and Atlantic soul hits right to the sophisticated and soulful Rocksteady material. As much as I love and adore this music I left my fingers from it so far, partly not to elevate my already grave vinyl addiction to a new level and partly because my good friend and regular guest Max Smart is covering these genres to perfection. That’s why I always look forward to having him and his Caribbean gems in the studio and last week was no exception when we were rewarded with another outstanding selection by the man as you can see below::
