Sounds Of Soul chronicles and playlist (1.2.2013): A cyclone of Soul
One of the undisputed annual highlights for the Northern and Rare Soul aficionados in this country is the Gold Coast weekender, always held during the Australia Day long weekend. What makes this particular gathering of the Soul Music faithful so special is the cheerfulness of its crowd, the quality of the music played and the extremely bad weather. It’s now the third time in a row that I made my way up there and there always seems to be a cyclone of sorts around, resulting in torrential rains, high winds, closed beaches and airports. Not that it mattered, the crowd danced almost non-stop for three days to the sounds of Northern, Modern and Crossover Soul, all played from the original records and proofed once more how very much alive this unique scene is in our part of the world. Though I never played records in a DJ-booth where water dripped from the ceiling, I had the greatest time playing the following records:
