Sounds Of Soul chronicles and playlist (12.04.2013): Original sin
It happens regularly that people ask me why I almost exclusively collect and play original pressings of vinyl records. I used to be pretty proud of this fact and back in the day I detested everyone going for the easy to get and cheaper bootlegs, but that attitude changed gradually over the years. Nowadays my attitude towards people djing records from reissues or boots, even when an original copy of the same record happens to be in my possession, is much more tolerant. This is mainly because I understand that values for these original gems have increased to a degree that makes it very hard for any newcomer to get into the wonderful world of Soul on wax. The truth is that I was just lucky enough to start collecting original vinyl when it still was cheap enough to even get hands on the rarer discs – back then it used to be more an exercise in endurance and know-how than simply a question of your financial capabilities. And because I’m a creature of habit I’ve stuck to the originals – as my playlist for last weeks SOS radio shows:
