Sounds Of Soul chronicles and playlist (31.05.2013): Mixed Souls

Bill BrandonThe week leading up to last Fridays Sounds Of Soul radio show was one of mixed feelings for yours truly. On one hand I’ve been delighted to be able to pick up a mint copy of a rather elusive record that has been for ages on my wants-list and also had the most pleasant time deejaying in Melbourne and for Radio Eastside’s Black Gold record fair respectively. One the other hand I had the bittersweet experience of seeing Bobby Womack, one of my all time favorite Soul artists, for possibly the last time live, given his fragile medical condition. Finally there was the sad news that the great Marvin Junior had passed away, leaving an enduring legacy as lead-singer of the Dells, one of the most prolific Soul groups in music history. Nevertheless it’s always a pleasure to be back in the chair at Sounds Of Soul and here’s what I picked to play:
