Sounds Of Soul chronicles and playlist (4.4.2014): F-word
After causing a bit of a stir by confessing my fondness for Disco and frequently using the shunned D-word in this blog, I will go even further and man up to admit that I quite like Funk music, especially the deep variety. Readers who are not familiar with the quirks of the Rare Soul scene, may be surprised to hear that my peers – collectors, DJs and aficionados alike – are very reserved towards anything funky at best. More likely it’s fair to say a lot of people, who are into Rare Soul, are downright hostile when it comes to the genre Funk whilst for me it’s just the other side of the same coin. I’ve never quite fathomed why this is so, maybe another case of a weird schism between conservatives and progressives in the scene, that happened way back in day in the North of England, but one thing is clear – the musicians concerned didn’t have any of such reservations and freely switched between both musical ways of expression. I’ll stop here before I get carried away to start rambling on about the next big topic which is the H-word aka House music and refer to my playlist of last week’s radio show instead which you can find below.
