Sounds Of Soul chronicles: Bobby Womack homage

Bobby Womack

I guess most who did have the pleasure to see Bobby Womack live at the Sydney Opera House little more than a year ago, kind of knew that it had been the last chance to see the great man on stage. It was equally sad and uplifting experience – it was a musically strong performance, yet his physical fragility was always palpable. Even though his bad health was well known, his death on June 27th still came as a shock, as we don’t lose such a musical genius every day. His unbelievable versatile career spanned seven decades, shining as first class songwriter, sought after guitarist and brilliant singer with a very distinct voice. Yet he remained, not unlike his peer Curtis Mayfield, always more a favorite of the underground rather than rising to mainstream stardom, part due to his own self destructive deeds, part to bad record deals. His legacy though is undisputed and diverse as one of the most influential Soul artists of all times. So me and my guest DJ Rob Goodburn, also a great admirer of Bobby Womack’s work, tried to pay a little homage to the great man, with our own selection of his or related records, as you can see in the list below:
