Sounds Of Soul chronicles: Diggers Gold
During my recent trip to Europe and the ransacking of the local record stores, there I was reminded how much record collecting has changed in the last two decades. Though Sydney got quite a few good record stores and fairs, that I more or less frequently visit, it’s nowadays on the web, where I find most of the wax I’m after. Mainly because I’m looking for original US pressings, which are for obvious reasons quite rare in this country, but also because of the convenience of letting the computer do most of the work. Maybe I should change this lazy habit because it was great fun to go through crates of the actual vinyl, browsing through thousands of copies and frequently be surprised by unexpected finds. This kind of sifting through dusty boxes is a very different process than sitting in front of a computer screen looking for a targeted item on the web. Sometimes it’s more fun when chance is the main factor for ones finds, just like it was in the days before the internet where you had no other choice than get your hands dirty. And here’s what I played in last week’s show – almost entirely put together from what I pulled out of said crates:
Willie Hutch/ And All Hell Broke Loose/LPIn Tune/Whitfield
