Sounds Of Soul chronicles: Floor-filler

Ron & Candy
At the moment my little record room looks fairly chaotic, not just because I fail to put everything in order but mainly because the latest influx of vinyl exceed the capacity of the shelves. As long as I don’t start to sell some stuff again the collection will keep on occupying more and more room in boxes on the floor, so I either have to move to a bigger house, which is very unlikely, or make some tough decisions. Anyhow, for the moment I enjoy the new additions to the family – some of it got some prime airtime in last week’s Sounds Of Soul radio show. I’m talking about “I Need Love” the flip of Daybreak’s “Everything Man” I was banging on about in last week’s Chronicles, Mandrills “My Kind Of Girl”, probably the most underrated of their major Soul sides and the very catchy “Joy Trip (Pt. 1)” by Jerline And Friends on the Street Soul label. Another first on the show was a version of the Millie Jackson classic “House For Sale” by New Zealand-born pop/soul singer Mark Williams, until recently easy to find in the dollar boxes of second hand record dealers but now increasingly rare, Latimore’s stepper “Just One Step” and last but not least the very nice Lovely Weekend by Ron And Candy on Inner City. Glad to say there will be always be new wax waiting for a SOS premier as long as I’ve got space for new boxes on the floor.

Here’s a link to a dance set I’ve done for a gig on the long weekend, lots of Disco and Modern stuff and a surprise or two at the end:
